Reading Challenges

2015 Reading Challenges!

Seeing as this is my first year actively participating in bookish things, I'm going to try to limit the amount of challenges I do just so that I don't get overwhelmed. On this page you'll find a quick overview of said challenges, plus some extra information!

Challenge one:

This year I've set my Goodreads challenge to fifty books. I only read about... ten books last year or so, maybe not even that, but I'm determined to reach my goal this year!

Challenge two:

Reading all of the books that my friend Whitney has recommended me. The amount is subject to grow through the year. (We discussed recommending about ten books to each other, but if I get through them quick enough we might increase the amount? Maybe? I don't know, I just know I'm going to adore the books Whitney recommends.) Here's the list so far:
  1. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
  2. The Cider House Rules by John Irving
  3. The Humans by Matt Haig
  4. The Stranger by Albert Camus
  5. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
  6. Hyperbole and a half by Allie Brosh

  1. Dear Famished for Fiction Club Members,

Please allow me to acquaint you with an independent author and his mission to raise awareness of the Cherokee Nation’s authentic history. Author Barney Beard has generously donated his powerful historical fiction novel/love story (PG-13) to all library systems in the states of Florida and Georgia, as well as to the library systems in the other historically relevant states of: Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Oklahoma. We are now attempting to expand awareness throughout the rest of America through book clubs. Please take a look at this novel and its reviews on Amazon.com and give it serious consideration for reading and discussion. I can promise you will not be disappointed! Thank you, Gaila Perran – Author Assistant

    A White Killing Frost

A White Killing Frost, a new historical novel, details the twenty years leading to the Cherokee deportation in 1838, the Cherokee Trail of Tears.
A White Killing Frost, with a bittersweet love story woven throughout, makes for a gripping read. Its strength is frequent and extensive quotations from extant newspapers, government records and personal correspondence, allowing readers to form their own opinion of American treatment of the Cherokee. This approach, using source documents rather than quoting historians, makes this book a leader in Native American literature of its kind.
